Trip Report

Malaga was a second choice of holidays. We originally planned to go to Menorca in September but health problems caused that to be cancelled.

Birmingham is a rubbish airport and so our choice of direct flights was limited, TA assurances that Malaga was a place worth visiting decided us. We found an apartment and flew out the week before Christmas.

I still had reservations thinking about lager louts and fish and chips and English tea. How wrong I was.

Malaga is a delightful city. It seemed to be full of Spanish families enjoying pre Christmas activities. It was a delight to hear very few English voices.

Some of the highlights,

Larios with its lights, its people, its entertainment, Mickey Mouse, stilt walkers, a fantastic turtle marionette who played the piano and shook hands with children, music.

Tapas, really enjoyed the food.

Botanical Gardens, serene, green, away from it all.

Thyssen Gallery, why didn't I know that there were so many superb Spanish painters other than Goya.

Mijas, donkeys, Brits and a really pretty place.

Thank you Malaga for a truely enjoyable holiday.

Hey Lizzy

What an excellent trip report, short, sweet and to the point. How great you enjoyed your holiday, especially after the other one had to be cancelled :(

Also it does show that enquiring on the Forums before you go away can or at least go a long way to ensuring you have a great time and you pick the right resort.

All the best for 2013.

Thanks CB.

We did in deed have a good time. Only one incident spoiling it. Look at Ronda forum to find out what.

But the good certainly outweighed the bad.

Happy New Year to you.

Ah what a shame that happened :( but yes, sorry to say, it is a common and very well rehearsed con....

The trouble is no forum will highlight issues like this unless asked as it hardly "sells" the resort ;-)

Fortunately it doesn't happen often, and hope your trip wasn't ruined as a consequence.

Have a great 2013.

Hi Lizzy, thanks for your feedback. Many people still have the 'lager louts and fish & chips' image of the Costa del Sol and it really doesn't apply anywhere here these days (although yes, Mijas is one of the favourites with British expats!).

Málaga City is a great place to stay and such a relaxing city, especially when coming from a Brummie winter - do come back again as there is plenty to explore and see within easy reach (Ronda, Cordoba, Granada etc.)

So glad you enjoyed Malaga - one of our favourite cities in Europe.

We had a short break there in December (16th to 20th) with friends and are already planning to repeat the trip this year - althiough we live less than an hours drive from the city we learned so much more about it by actually staying there.

Come back soon.

This is true of so many Andalucían cities, the same applies to Córdoba and Granada - although they are easy day-trips you don't really understand them without at least one night staying over...cities that come alive at night time, especially during the hot summer.

Felíz año nuevo!

Magic Malaga!

Stayed in Malaga 22nd to 29th December, it was simply brilliant!

Christmas Eve and Day was spent down at the harbour and joining in with all the family events. We had day trips to Fuengirola and Torremolinos but spent the majority of our time in the city as it was so fantastic. Christmas dinner outside, such a treat. The street entertainment was so good, can't praise Malaga and it's lovely people enough for giving us a great time and an unforgetable experience.

Barnsley, what a lovely report, makes me feel envious as it was pouring rain all over the holidays here. I was in Malaga in September and can't wait to go back for another visit.

Happy New Year.
