Five years ago the Sorolla exhibition of Visions of Spain came to the CAC Museum in Malaga. A Malaga artist by the name of Rando Soto went to see it and was greatly inspired by the paintings of Sorolla, all of which were painted in a large format. He decided to paint something similar, but this time about Malaga. He has painted nine large format paintings with typical Malaga scenes, such as fishermen on the beach at El Palo, workmen with grapes from the Axarquia, the Verdiales, Malagueña women at the fair, and processions. The paintings are beautiful and impressive. Mr. Soto is now 63, but he has accomplished what no other painter from Malaga has done before.
My concern is where the paintings will eventually go. These large paintings are now part of the art history of Malaga, a real treasure. Visitors to Malaga will really appreciate them.
