nice place for menu del dia this Friday

hi there think we will go to Malaga on Friday as the forecast is for rain. Looking forward to seeing the Christmas lights once it gets dark (6.00 ish?) Please could anyone recommend somewhere near the main shopping street, is it Larios, where we can have a good value menu del dia or a lovely tapas place - somewhere old fashioned spanish would be lovely. thanks for any help ps on a slightly less ethereal note is there a Primark in Malaga as we need some towels. thanks

There is a Primark in the Larios shopping centre, which is across the road from the bus station and close to the train station.

As for food if you walk up the main pedestrianised street (Calle Larios) you will arrive at Plaza Constitucion, where the large Xmas cone (tree) is, from there continue up past the cone into Calle Granada, there are many nice cafes and bar/restaurants, browse and take your pick. Our favourite is La Campana where they do great fish raciones (also try the fried sliced aubergenes with caña miel (cane honey similar to treacle) YUMMY!! It opens at 8-30pm. You will find it on the left as you walk along Calle Granada, it is only the size of a couple of garages and gets really busy with locals.

Just back from a great weekend in Malaga, found a great tapas place in Plaza Merced its called La Plaza, also along side La Plaza is a few more but we found La Plaza to be the best. When you find the Tree in Plaza Constitucion have a look over to Grand Central Cafe and alongside it is Calle Santa Maria just along there is two nice small tapas bars, El gallo Ronca on the right is very good and does nice tapas, Sangria was also excellent there! there is one further along on the left which appears good but the lady was very pushy to get you in. We did pass it and it had some Flamenco on but not many people inside. Ps This street leads to the cathedral.

Ps, Larios shopping centre is quite good. Enjoy Malaga!

thanks for the replies. I'm assuming Plaza Mercad is where the indoor market is? I love having a wander round there - certainly gets the taste buds going!

Plaza Merced is Picasso's birth place, is north east of the centre, well away from the market.

Just to qualify Ian's post there is an indoor market at the Picasso birthplace side of Plaza Merced but it isn't the more well known Antarazanas market
