"halal food tapas etc in Granada Seville and Cordoba?"

Hi there

Im heading to several cities Cordoba, Granada and Sevilla this summer. Can anyone please advise where the nicest places are to eat and whether there are any halal eateries anywhere if at all? I would like to sample some traditional Spanish food too, i.e. paella, tapas etc and dont mind eating in a non-halal restaurant as long as there are veg and seafood dishes also available. Much thanks.

Hi,

there is a halal restaurant in Martinez Rucker st called 'El Sultan'.

Try the 'tortilla de patatas' (potatoes omelette) in 'Casa Santos' (Ma)gistral Gonzalez Francés st.

Some Spanish tapas suggestions, that can be considered as halal:

- Berenjenas fritas (deep fried eggplants, usually with honey topping)

- Salmorejo (cold tomato and bread cream, ask for it without the ham topping)

- All the fried fish (Calamares, calamaritos, chopitos, boquerones, etc...)

- Cheese in olive oil.

- Gazpacho.

- Paella de marisco. (Seafood paella)

- Papas a lo pobre (Deep fried potatoes, green peppers and onion, usually served with a fried egg)

- Papas bravas. (Deep fried potatoes with a hot tomato sauce)

- Papas aliñás (Boiled potatoes salad, seasoned with cubed tomatoes, onions, hard boiled egg and tuna)

etc... ;)

Halal fish: eat any fish that has scales, and do not eat what does not have scales.

I'm afraid that calamares, chopitos are coquinas are not halal food…

According to the information given by the 'Instituto Halal', every fish is halal. So stuff yourself with 'pescaito'...

This information was in Spanish, so I have looked for and found some in English:

In Cordoba you have a Moorish restaurant about 3min from the Mosque (mesquita) which is halal. (Ask your tour guide who will point you in the right direction).

If you walk further out of the old part of the city, theres a Turkish Kebab place which offer halal chicken, beef and lamb.

As others have said, Fish is available throughout Spain - so no problem there!

Granada - you shouldnt have any problems in getting halal food, go Albacin, the arabic quarter of the city and you'll find lots of food places there. Or in Granada city centre, you'll find arabic, morrocan and turkish food places.

All the best and enjoy your holiday.

zzfamily:

Fish in Spain is cooked with olive oil. Never heard anyone using alcohol.
