Has anyone stayed here? How far out of town is it? How difficult is it to get there from the Central Train Station? is it a good place to stay with a 14 year old/ Thanks. |
|
I live in Dresden and have not stayed here, sorry :-) It is still in town - there is a tram stop about 5-7 min. walking away. This tram #11 runs to downtown and the central train station. It takes about 10 - 15 minutes to the sights and about 25 to the central train station. The tram runs frequently (every 10 minutes from morning till evening, every 20-30 minutes in the night). The hotel is located in a large park - means there is nothing to do for a 14 year old right in front of the door. But the action is only a short tram ride away. Please note that there is a castle-like building (5 star) and a dependancy (called Kavaliershaus) in the park (3 star) - the 5star is maybe too upscale for a 14 year old. Ingo

Thanks, the hotel is quite a bit cheaper than those in the center, but I know it's not very well located, and I won't have a car. do you know a place under 80 euros or so clsoe to the center, even a pension...? Thanks.
|
Under 80 Euro is for sure a room in the dependancy. Not a bad choice at all! You could try this one: Pension am Grossen Garten. www.pension-am-grossen-garten.de Another option: www.pension-zwinger.de or this: www.mezcalero.de

thank you. Have you stayed at any of this places, or at least been inside?
|
Friends of mine have stayed in each. I would not recommend them otherwise.

grossen garten pension has the better deal for the dates in which I'm interested. Thanks for your help.

I stayed here on December 28-29, 2006. It was very good, very clean, nice room, bath, etc. Breakfast was great. The owner, Andrea, is very helpful and speaks fluent English. One drawback---it was about 6 tram stops from Central and 2 trams from the rail station. But once I got my bearings, that was no problem. The rate was 65 Euros per nite, double, inclusive of taxes and breakfast. Dresden is a lovely city and somewhat relaxing. Lots to see and do.

I should clarify--in my 1/10/07 post, I was speaking of.... grossen garten pension... Sorry for any confusion.
