Frankfurt to Leverkusen - Spurs match

I am flying into Frankfurt and getting the "ICE" train from the airport. Does anyone which is the nearest station to the stadium? Is it Leverkusen Mitte?

Cheers

Yes. You need Leverkusen Mitte station for the BayArena stadium. Take the ICE to Cologne (Köln) Hauptbahnhof, then switch to line S6 of the S-Bahn in the direction of Essen Hbf and alight at Leverkusen Mitte.

If you have already bought your ticket and it is valid to Leverkusen, it is valid for both trains. If the ticket is only valid to Cologne Hbf, then you'll need to buy an additional ticket to Leverkusen.

From Leverkusen Mitte station, the BayArena is signposted; it's a ten-minute walk to the stadium.

Not if you hold a match ticket. The match ticket covers the S-Bahn or regional trains (RB, RE) from Cologne to Leverkusen. And back.

Really? I didn't know that. Is the same true of a ticket holder of any German football club? How far exactly may you travel using a match ticket?

Usually within the respective Verkehrsverbund (integrated transport system). As Leverkusen is on the border of two of them, VRR (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr) and VRS (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg) I would guess the ticket is valid in both of them.

Such "Kombitickets" exist for many major events (e.g. football matches, big concerts, trade fairs, ...). They are normally valid for the complete "Verkehrsverbund" (local public transport network).

Here the VRS (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg).

http://www.vrsinfo.de/eng/index.php

Normally the tickets show the logo of the Verkehrsverbund or a text information on this.

Limits: normally these tickets are not valid in "Übergangszonen" (overlapping areas of two "Verkehrsverbünde").

vrsinfo.de/images/2_11_1_popupBild_VRSVRR.jpg

This means: you can buy e.g. a VRS single ticket to travel from Leverkusen to Düsseldorf. But not from Bonn to Düsseldorf, as Bonn is not in the "Übergangszone" of the VRS/VRR.

And this means also that you cannot use the Leverkusen match ticket to travel from Düsseldorf to Leverkusen.

(Leverkusen is not listed as a Kombiticket partner of the VRR.)

And another thing to be aware of:

Some Kombitickets count as normal day tickets. Others do only allow to travel to the event (in an appropriate time frame) and back.

Some of them are pretty large. You can e.g. travel with an FCK (Kaiserslautern) match ticket from Osterburken to Kaiserslautern with the S-Bahn S1. 168 km.
