Dusseldorf for 4 days

Hi everyone.

I will be travelling alone to Dusseldorf for 4 days (31 Augst - 3rd Sept) and staying in Auszeit hotel near Volksgarten S-Bahn station.

Some of the to do --->

---------------------------------------

•Old City (U-Bahn stop: Heinrich-Heine-Allee). 16-1.

• Rhine Promenade. along the river bordering the Old City, it leads all the way down to the Media Harbor.

• Media Harbor (Tram stop: Platz des Landtages).interesting buildings designed by Frank Gehry, Claude Vasconi, and David Chipperfield.

• Rhine Tower (Tram stop: Platz des Landtages).

carnival-Kilmes-along the Rhein during summer. In the park, there are roller coasters, Ferris wheel, flying jinny and also beer garden.

•Altstadt. meaning "old city," of Düsseldorf is very beautiful. You can find the Alt beer in a lot of traditional breweries like the "Uerige", "Füchschen", "Zum Schlüssel" or "Schumacher" (tourists and local citizens like these places). edit

•Königsallee (U-Bahn stop: Steinstr./Kö), [6]. Internationally well-known, called the "Kö". Many high level fashion stores are at the Kö. It is sometimes referred to as the "Champs-Élysées of Germany". edit

Film-Museum, Schulstraße 4.

•Hetjens Museum/Deutsches Keramikmuseum, Schulstrasse 4.

•Theatermuseum, Hofgärtnerhaus, Jägerhofstrasse 1.

Stadtmuseum, Berger Allee 2.

------------------------------------------

is there anything else I should do or look please?

and where do I get proper local food please? as long as it is not overpriced.

thanks

For real German food at reasonable prices look no further than the breweries in the old town - personally I like Schluessel, but Frankenheim, Fuechschen and Uerige are all good too.

Hi I was there at the end of June. I really liked the bar restaurant Gosch, on the Rhine Promenade at the old town end. It's lovely to sit there and people watch. The food is self service but cooked to order. Its a fish restaurant but its so nice to sit there especially if like us you have good weather.

If you have nice weather I would rent bike's and ride up the Rhine. It can be so pretty. You can stop for lunch/gelato in Kaiserswerth or contiue up the Rhine. There is a no name beer stop past Kaiserswerth where you just grab a lawn chair and sit by the rhine with your beer (very casual) You'll know you've reached it by the row of folks in white resin chairs.

The Ko is over the top shopping!

I also think the Nordpark/Aquazoo U79 tram are really pretty if you like gardens.

I'd go to Cologne by boat if its a pretty day, or by train if not. The Domn is incredible.

I know its touristy but I like ZumSchiffen near the market for "local" food. And my favorite brewery is Uerge.

"Schloss Benrath" (Benrath Palace and park) was not mentioned so far.

Perfect for a sunny afternoon...

Hi andie.

thanks. It is actually pretty near to me by S-line.

I am staying in volksgarten and have huge park here.

might go to cologne again. not too far.

is the schloss benrath open on Sunday, i heard everyone was telling me everything closes on Sunday. the S6 passed by Benrath today.

both cities are great. cologne better for shopping, but the rhiene walk and aldstat, i think dusseldorf is better.

enjoyed my wine gathering/exhibition/festival in the town. cheap and good.

The main palace (corps de logis) is closed on monday.

On sunday it's open!

Just take the S6 heading to Cologne and go out at "Düsseldorf-Benrath". When you leave the train station go straigt forward until you pass the "hauptstrasse" and you will be quite near the palace and the park.

Moreover, you will see on of the largest beer exhibitions in Germany this weekend in Benrath ;-)

Here's a copy from a description from the internet:

"Düsseldorf - Benrath Bierbörse

1 - 3 Aug 2008 (annual)

Beer fans drink to their hearts' content at the annual Düsseldorf - Benrath Bierbörse. The city's pedestrianised zone is transformed into a huge beer garden, attracting around 100,000 visitors every year.

Major breweries offer hundreds of beers for sale, alongside smaller international brewers who give out samples to visitors. Numerous beers from five continents are available: German and international, bitter and sweet, light and dark, and there's plenty for the serious beer buff to collect, from glasses and clothing to beer mats and bottles.

Get there early as there's scarcely room to breathe later on in the evening!"
