I'm deciding between Batavia hotel and the Excelsior hotel for a weekend break in December. Which hotel is closer to the Christmas markets and shopping area/old town and is safer to walk around at night for three females travelling together? Thanks very much.

Sorry.. meant to add that I'm also looking at the City Apart Hotel. How does this compare to other hotels near the Old Town??

Stayed in both. Excelsior is closer to the old town, Batavia closer to the shops. Both are nice hotels with the excelsior probably edging it. We`re going back in november for some serious partying having been every year for 12 years.

Thanks for your advice. We are still are undecided on where to stay and are also looking at the Berial hotel (near Excelsior) or St Andreas Hotel which is in the old town near St Andreas church. Have you heard of or stayed at either of these hotels at all? We're not staying in Dusseldorf until late November so still have a little time to decide.
