My father has asked me to escort him on a trip to see the island of Dan, Danholm for his 70th birthday as his father/my grandfather spent a relatively happy,peaceful time there in the first world war as a PoW. Does anyone know of any place, musuem or local knowledge about the camp, the PoW stories from then that i may look up when i arrive this summer? Paul@medialease.com Report as inappropriate |

Dänholm island http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%A4nholm http://www.ruegenmagic.de/gdaenh.htm There is the Geman Maritime Museum Nautineum on this island. www.meeresmuseum.de/nautineum/index.htm And the navy museum Dänholm http://www.marinemuseum-daenholm.de/ This museum covers the history of the island. But while the PoW camp is listed in the history timetable, there is nothing mentioned about it on the exhibition pages. You can of course ask them directly marinemuseum-daenholm@t-online.de Apart from the two museums there is the customs authority of Stralsund on the island.
