Easter, Sylt

I would like to spend Easter holidays in Hamburg and go for one day trip to Sylt.

Is it good time or is almost everything close for visiting and what about weather conditions?

Thank you so much.

Easter weekend is high season on Sylt. Stores are closed on national holidays (friday, sunday and monday on easter weekend) , restaurants will be open. However Sylt is an exception to the rule and some stores might be open on sunday and monday.

Weather in april can be anything from cold and rainy to sunny and warm. The easiest way of visiting Sylt from Hamburg is by train and you don't have to buy tickets in advance for this short trip. So you can just pick a nice day and head of to Sylt.

even with bad weather there are a lot of things to do in Hamburg like

"Miniatur Wunderland" , "Hamburg Dungeon" or "Hagenbeck Tropen-Aquarium"

If you want to do some shopping in hamburg you have to do it on saturday because like efb53 said, in the city all the stores will be closes on friday, sunday and monday at easter.

At Slyt most of the stores and shopps will be open (Sun/Mon).

For a daytrip to Sylt you could use the Schleswig-Holstein-Länderticket wich you can buy at a ticketmaschine in the trainstation.

So you could decide it, when you're in Hamburg, if the weather will make it worth to go to that beautiful Island.

For some history I recomend a daytrip to Lübeck. (Capital of the hanseatic league with old churches and his famous brickbuildings) you can discover historic Lubeck easy by train and the train needs only 45min from Hamburg.

If the the 3:15 hour trainride to Slyt is to long for you, and you want to see big ships, a nice beach and the sea, a daytrip to "Lübeck-Travemünde" might be a good idea.

TRAVEMUENDE (my birthplace) is a nice beachcity with walking streets, streetcafes, a historic sailingship "Passat" in the harbour and you will also find a nice beach there.

What makes Travemünde so unique, is that you could sit in a cafe at the promenade and watch a huge ferryship (less then 100m away) going by.

you can go to Travemuende very easy by train via Lübeck in 1:15 h.
