Hi All,

I am travelling to Hamburg in December with my boyfriend. I want the weekend to be really nice, and we have booked a car and hotel in Celle, before returning to Hamburg for 2 nights. Can anyone give me advise on where to stay in Hamburg please. My boyfriend isn't keen on expensive hotels, and its more about location/atmosphere/service for him rather then amenities in the hotel. I have seen that the NH Hamburg hotel has ok reviews, as does the 25 hours hotel. Does anyone have any advise for me please. Also, any advise on what to do while ther would be great too (I am very keen on seeing some lovely christmas markets, and he is into Museums and Art Galleries). Thanks so much in advance for your help - I appreciate it lots!

Hi Little_Moos_Mum

I don't know the hotels you mentioned so I can't comment on them. However, NH Hotel is in Feldstrasse which is in an area where you might not feel that comfortable because you might run into junkies and drunks there. Usually they are just sitting around somewhere ignoring the poeple going by so it's really up to you whether this is ok for you or not. I've been there during daytime only because there are really some great shops there and that was ok. I don't know what it is like in the evening.

The area the 25 hours hotel is in, is ok but a bit boring. If you can give some kind of price range, it would be easier to recommend a hotel in an interesting area.

In regards of christmas markets, have a look at my post from 25 Oct 2007 (German Xmas markets...) I posted quite a long list there.

In regards of art galleries and museums I can recommend the following ones for you:

art galleries:

Kunsthalle

Bucerius Kunstforum

museums:

Museum fuer Voelkerkunde:

Hamburg Museum:

Speicherstadtmuseum:

If you like, you can also check some of my other posts. There are some more info on Hamburg ;-) And if you have any other questions, just let me know.

I hope you enjoy your trip to Hamburg!

Thank you very much for the help.

I am able to spend about £100 per night for the hotel. Location is fairly important, as we only have 2 nights there. If you have any other hotel suggestions that would be great.

I visited Hamburg years ago as a child, so can't wait to go back there now. I seem to remember a huge market on a sunday morning by the harbour? Is this still there? Thanks once again for your help!!

I have stayed at the Sofitel am alten Wall which was excellent! Best location in the city center:

We also had dinner once on the East hotel and I thought I would like to stay there next time:

I agree with Ulrike. Sofitel and East Hotel are both a good choice.

But the East Hotel is a design hotel where not all people feel well, so check their website! The bathroom for example cannot be closed so whatever you are doing in their is not really happening in private ;-) But even if you decide not to stay there over night you can go there for dinner. That's excellent!

Other good hotels:

-das Smolka

-Hafen Hamburg

- Hamburg Marriott

- Renessaince Hotel

Go to this website, click on 'Hotels', 'Hotel list A - Z' and enter the name of the respective hotels to find more detailed information:

The market you are remembering is the Fischmarkt:

hamburg-tourism.de/…

Still there, still great :-)

Hi Mum,

Try this website too: www.booking.com

On this website you will find various reviews of the hotels in Hamburg. Type your dates and they will give you all the hotels (and prices), which are available for your requested days. On the left side you will find the map of Hamburg.
