I'd like to walk around and really get the flavor of Berlin's underground culture. Where should I go? Any particular streets/neighborhoods?

Hi,

there aren't any alternative neighbourhoods left. 15 years ago there still were about 150 houses occupied by artists, punks...etc. Not a single house is left. Most of them are either reprivatized or cleared by the police. Neighbourhoods formerly known for being alternative are now commercialized such as my district Prenzlauer Berg. The left punk scene is almost dead.

The little rest could mainly be seen in... Friedrichshain/Kreuzberg.

If want to catch a punk/alternative concert or just want to get in touch with Berlin's underground scene check the following locations:

your best bet to find punk/alternative "neighbourhoods" is in Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg.

Hi,

you could do a walk in Friedrichshain from Rigaer Str./Samariterstr. southwards to Mainzer Str. The Mainzer Str. is pretty famous for some riots 15 years ago. Back then the whole street was occupied.
