To update this posting. Two more hotels have replied that they had rooms available, [Romantik Hotel Markusturm, Hotel Tilman-Riemenschneider], and one hotel did not reply [Hotel Kloster-Stüble].

Of those that did reply the quoted rates for a double room ranged from 79 € to 175 € per night mit frühstück.

I will be in Rothenburg the following weekend and Im dealing with the limited options as well.

I plan on exploring the area by car and for ease of in/out of Rothenburg with proximity to the city I think I will try Hotel Hornburg.

The Hotel Hornberg quoted us a weekend rate of 93 € per night for room #15. The hotel is total non-smoking.

We just got back from a one week stay at the Hornburg. We have stayed there 4 or 5 times and have always found it delightful. If you want to see what the rooms look like, they have an excellent web page at http://www.hotel-hornburg.de/ If you click on the tab marked "View Rooms" a picture of each room pops up along with a description. Click on the picture for more views of each room. I believe that 4 of the 10 rooms are still designated as "smoking" but better check if it is important to you. Our room on this trip (Nr 7) was one of the "smoking" rooms, but had absolutely no smell of smoke. We have stayed several times in room 15, same thing.
