It is possible, but it takes around two hours on weekdays.

1) train (leaves every two hours) to Steinach (about 15 min.), change into train to Ansbach (about 20 min.), where you board the bus to Dinkelsbhl (another hour).

2) bus to Feuchtwangen (1 hr 15min), change into bus to Dinkelsbhl (another 20 minutes).

If you speak some German, the website of the German railways (www.bahn.de) gives you the connections. Overland buses don't depart very frequently- every 1-3 hours or so. Since they usually run quite empty, it should never be a problem to accomodate a group of 7. They will be very happy to see you, I should think. If you are a family, make sure you get all the family discounts for that trip, otherwise the tickets can turn out quite expensive. If travelling on a weekend, you may be able to use the family weekend railpasses (e.g. called Bayernticket in Bavaria) - they enable a group of five adults and umpteen kids to travel on one ticket at a VERY reasonable price- excluding the fast major overland trains though (like the ones that stop only at Munich-Augsburg-Ulm-Stuttgart, or Munich- Nuremberg).

There is also one direct bus service, which only takes 43 mins.

Have a look at www.bahn.de --> Internat. Guests for timetables!
