Can any locals advise me about the state of the flooding around Passau and the cycling paths leading towards Vienna?
We are booked to cycle from Passau to Vienna commencing 20 June. We have conflicting information about the state of the cycle path. Can anyone assist with an up to date assessment of the efforts to clear the cycle path.
If you follow the links to my original request the news is all there. a mixed picture I think- best of luck!
Thanks HP very useful. I am also hoping that someone in Passau or on the path at the moment might be able to provide a first hand account of how the clean up is progressing.

We're also heading out tomorrow for Passau to Vienna cycle trip.
Think it will just be case of taking it as we find it.
information on the status of the Danube cycle route in Germany (in English)
Danube cycle route in Oberösterreich (Upper Austria - Passau to Grein) is open again. With some minor diversions. News (in German):
Started cycle trip from Passau to Vienna on June 13th. We have had no problems at all. Although many of the towns en route have had bad flooding the cycle path to Linz where we are now has been fully cleared. I can't be certain about the other bank but we have had no problems. The hotels we stayed in Passau and Schlogen both experienced some flooding and were closed for most of last week but no effect on our stay at all.
The cycle path so far has been in excellent condition and cleaned where necessary. Best advice is to check hotels where you are staying as some in Passau are still closed.
I would like to know how the clean up in Passau and the cycle paths south are now.
We competed the Passau to Vienna cycle on Tuesday 25 June. There were no significant issues. Most of the paths had been cleared and cleaned. Suggest you follow the left or right bank recommendations of most of the tour companies as there were a few sections (mostly on the right bank) where repair work was still incomplete.
Our general impression was that the authorities / communities had done a fantastic job cleaning up the damage from the flood. The hotels we used were fully operational and some of these had been flooded.
Have a great ride - we certainly did
Terrific news! We are looking forward to our boat/ cycle trip departing Passau on 14th July so thank you for the update and glad you were able to cycle there too.
