Hostels in Munich and travel to Salzburg

Does anyone have suggestions on good, safe hostels in Munich? I am taking 10 teenage girls this summer. Also, what is the best way to get to Salzburg?

Thank you!

1. Re: Hostels in Munich and travel to Salzburg

The most economical way to travel from Munich to Salzburg is with the Bayern-Ticket. Information is at bahn.de/-S:PtVORd:d9E-jtNNYyadcNNNNPIM/p/vie…

Scroll down to Bayern-Ticket (Bavaria-Ticket).

The 25 € ticket is good for up to 5 people to travel through out Bavaria, including to/from Nürnberg, Garmisch, Oberammergau, Füssen, and Salzburg. Travel is restricted to IRE, RB, RE trains outside of Munich and S-Bahn trains in Munich including to/from the airport. Because it is a “commuter” type ticket, it cannot be used until after 09:00 on weekdays. There is no weekend time restriction. The ticket is NOT valid on ICE, IC or EC trains.

As an example, on an IC train it is 1h 30m from Munich to Salzburg, on a RB train it is 2h. Same tracks just more stops. Normal one-way 2nd class fare on RE trains is 22.60 € each.
