visiting both castles,tour times

What are the lastest times that you can book the tours for both castles. If the castles close at 5:00pm,are the latestest tour times for both castles at 3:00pm and 5:00pm?

One hour after the last "Ticket sales times" for the respective castle.

https://www.hohenschwangau.de/551.0.html

Thus last time you can book a tour for is for Neuschwanstein Castle in Summer at 18:00 (6:00pm).

But note that

a) if you buy a ticket for touring both castles Hohenschwangau castle is first

b) when aiming for the last tour - this is the last tour for the respective castle. Not for touring both castles.

Get in contact with the Ticket Center if you want to know more details and an answer you can 100% rely on.

You can probably figure on a minimum required time of four hours:

- You must pick up your tickets one hour before your first tour

- The Hohenschwangau tour (excellent tour, BTW) takes about 45 minutes,

- You will automatically be given one hour to get from Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein (if you're fit, I recommend walking up to it - it has very nice scenery)

- The Neuschwanstein tour (quite poor, IMHO - it was much better 10 years ago) takes about 30 minutes.

- The trip from Neuschwanstein can take 15-30 minutes, depending on how you do it.

We are interested in seeing both castles. So if you are fit, you can walk from Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein in about 30 minutes or will it take longer?

Judy - It took us (two 52 years olds and a 19 yo) about 30 minutes to leisurely walk up to Neuschwanstein (the walk down from Hohenschwangau is pretty, too, if you walk through the woods - about 10-15 minutes).

Thank you for the info. We would like to see both castles and possibly to see Linderhof also, just need to figure out how to get there. Will most likely need to stay 1 night in the area

We stayed in a Ferienwohnung (apartment) in a small town called Horn (between Fuessen and Schwangau). We could actually have walked to the castles from our apartment (about 3 km), and it was on the way to Linderhof (northern route).

We also spent time in Schwangau, which is even closer to the castles - you can see the castles from the road connecting Horn and Schwangau, although they are small. I liked Schwangau better than the city of Hohenschwangau because there were fewer tourists and far fewer crowds, but other posters here really like the city of Hohenschwangau, since one or more of the castles are visible at night and you can easily walk to the castles.

You could do all three buildings in one day (we did), but there is so much more to see that I'd recommend, if you have the time, you spend at least two (or better, three) nights in that area - you can also see the Tegelberg (summer luge), the Zuspitze (highest mountain in Germany, with a railroad/cable car to the top - near Garmisch), the Eibsee (alpine lake at the base of the Zugspitze. with a 7.5 km hiking trail), the Partnachklamm (spelling?) in Garmish, and Fuessen's Altstadt, to name just a few.
