Garmisch-Partenkirchen skiing late Nov.

Hi, we are flying into Munich on 28th Nov 2013. We was looking to go to Ischgl with friends but they have had to pull out due to unforeseen circumstances. As we are only staying for four days i was thinking about staying somewhere closer to the airport.

As we have not booked our accomodation yet i just wanted a bit of advise regarding Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Is the ski area open on the 28th Nov or is it not open until a later date in Dec. Ive had a look online and the general image i am getting is early dec - april but then others say Nov - April.

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly received - or if anyone has skied here in November?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Chazoo,

Normally the Zugspitze ski area opens in late November. However, in 2012, high winds kept blowing the snow off of the trails, so there wasn't enough snow cover to open the pistes (they don't make snow at the Zugspitze). It didn't open until a month later.

Unfortunately, the exact opening date just depends on the weather.
