dog friendly holiday in august

We're going to drive through France and stay for a week in Chamonix, can anyone recommend any dog friendly chalets, bars and restaurants? Also does anyone know if the cable cars accept dogs, some websites say they do others don't specify! We want to do a lot of walking and hiking around the area. Also has anyone used the train and buses in between the villages, do they allow dogs?

Most restaurant etc are OK with dogs.

But they are not allowed on the cable cars. Also there are walking areas that are nature reserves and dogs are not allowed at all, on lead or not !

They are allowed on the Flegere gondola and Brevent bubble, for definite - I have borrowed a dog to walk up there before! Not on the Aiguille du Midi though. Trains and buses are fine including Montenvers.

The Aiguilles Rouges is a nature reserve and you can't take dogs there - this includes quite a lot of Flegere/Brevent area above the level of the balcons, (I think Lac Blanc is included in this?) but there are plenty of walks that are OK.

Hi there,

Chamonix is very dog friendly so you should have a great time! Most restaurants and bars let them in no problem. There are a fair few chalets and apartments that let dogs stay although some charge extra! I know there's a company called Adventure Base that has three chalets in the centre that doesn't charge. The chalets all share a big dog-friendly garden too, which is handy!

Have fun!
