West Midlands to Frejus Plage: Train or Flight?

We're balancing up the pros and cons with price being an important factor. We were originally going to drive but have now booked an excellent apartment which doesn't need transport. For the 4 of us to fly we're looking at around £250pp to fly plus transport from Nice to Frejus Plage (advice there appreciated too!) We did wonder about Eurostar or any other train services as a compromise; obviously it would take longer but the journey looks as though it may be enjoyable. Unfortunately they don't appear to have released the prices for August yet, do they increase dramatically? So excited :-)

Thank you all so much, we've decided to fly. It's more exciting for the children and we work hard all year for our holiday and it sounds so much less stressful and time consuming than the train so what the hell!

The information given, in particular from papluviose has been brilliant.

Now to book the flights .... I presume the sooner the better?

Yes, do book flights as early as possible. Prices go up nearer to the date of travel. If you're going to catch the 3003 express bus from Nice airport, there's a ticket office for buses right next to the bus stops at each of the two air terminals. You need to buy your bus tickets before boarding the 3003. Within St Raphael-Frejus, if you're going to be using the local buses a lot, you can buy a book of 10 tickets (a "carnet") for €9 from the office at St Raph bus station which is a discount from the regular price of €1.10 per individual ticket and you don't have to bother about having coins/small notes on you each time.

Heathrow to nice on ba is around £100 return or if like me you have AVIOS points you pay 9000 points and only £30 taxes with free flights from leeds bradford, manchester and others to connect with Heathrow flight. we are travelling using avios. such brilliant value.

It is always possible to get a cheap flight and e.g the last ones out of London Heathrow to Nice at night are always cheap even at peak season. What travellers fail to build in is that at late hours the transfer even to places quite close to Nice airport will cost as much or more than the air fare.

Great advice on the last post -

I recently saved £30 on a late flight but then had to pay 36e for a taxi rather than 4e for a bus .
