To use Nice as a base for 5 days

Hi All,

Advise needed please. Do we stay in Nice for 6 days and go on day trips each day using public transport and then returning to the Hotel each night.

Or do we have 2 nights Nice, 2 nights Monaco, 2 nights Cannes etc etc etc (not in that order or course but for example) packing up and moving to hotels does not appeal to me but would we get more out of these beautiful places by staying longer than just one day.

We are 2 Aussies in our 50's, and really have no specific interests just love to see EVERYTHING

Kind regards Dee

Dee....welcome to the forum! The Cote d' Azur is very compact and if you choose one base, you can see it all very easily without moving.

If you want a small, charming (quiet) base, Villefranche is the way to go. Make sure you look at the photo galleries...

If you are looking for a larger city, Nice is wonderful place, and has it all.

In the middle is Antibes..this would be my recommendation.

Travelling between these communities is so easy on the train or bus...

Stay in Nice. These places are close to each other. 40 minutes by train to Cannes. 20 minutes to Monaco. Here is a website in French giving you all train info : www.ter-sncf.com/Regions/PACA/fr/Default.aspx

Hi Dee,

Definitely recommend that you choose just one base - as mentioned above commuting between all the places as day trips works very well and public transport is excellent and very inexpensive.

As to which town, each has its own merits -suggest you pick up an up to date guide book and research the internet a little more - unfortunately the links above are to info that is dated and a little clichéd.

If you want a city base, suggest you choose Nice.

We like Cannes because it is compact with a very central rail station and plenty of accommodation choice and all amenities are very accessible .

Antibes isn't so convenient for transport - rail and bus links are not so central and accommodation is more limited, but might work too

Hope this helps
