L'Oasis Hotel |
|
Hi, I'm travelling to Nice with my Mother in early October, for a girly sightseeeing break . It is our first trip to this area, although we have holidayed in France many times, our favoutite places being Collieur and Port Vendres. While in Nice we will be staying at the Hotel L'Oasis. Have any of the members on here stayed there or have any info ? We are well accustomed staying in rural French hotels, but have never stayed in a city. We are not looking for luxury, just a base from which to explore. Any suggestions too, on where to sample good Nicoise fare at a reasonable price would be gratefully received. Thanks All |

We have stayed at the Oasis a couple of times. The position is excellent, lovely courtyard to have breakfast (weather permitting), off the road and quiet. The rooms are clean and comfortable but small - some very small. Real value for money. All the restaurants in the Rue Meyerbeer are good. As you come out of the hotel gate, turn left, and a short way up is a small restaurant, Le Mascot. As in so many small French bistros, Madame is the waitress and Monsieur is the Chef. Their price is very low, and the cooking super - try their duck. They are closed at weekends as they are keen sailors. If the wind is good they may not open on Monday! Turn right from the hotel, and there are lots more small restaurants, all fine. They have their menus on display so you can't go wrong. The best, and more expensive, is the Pot d'Etain, on the left going down. If you're lucky, you may be greeted by the owner, a large yellow labrador. If not, you will find her asleep under a table. Have a lovely holiday.

Sorry, I've just noticed that you are from Kirkcaldy. When you get down to the Promenade des Anglais, think: "our Esplanade could be just as good as this!". We will be in Nice in the middle of September and will updste you when we return.
