Trip to Nice

We plan on spending time in Nice next spring on our trip to visit our daughter. Any ideas re reasonably priced accommodations and restaurants? We'll be with our other two daughters, so are looking for ways to save money.

I will be able to report back on reasonably priced accommodation next week, staying in one myself to find out!

Food wise Nice is great. Huge number of pizza and pasta places, lots of competition so prices are pretty keen. Plus there are many oriental buffet places and these are reasonable as well. Failing that there is always MacDonalds next to the Casino.

There are two main areas: The pedestrian area to the left of Medicin (assuming you have a map) and the Vieux Ville to the right and down a bit from the end of Medicin. Roughly a ten minute amble between the two.

Well, I used the cute 1 star Rex at 3 Rue Massena, a stone's throw from the Place Massena itself. Basic, but nicely done and clean. A single is only 45euros a night! I was apartment hunting and so it suited me very well. Nice people too. Few comforts, so if you are planning to sit in a lot it may not be ideal. As a base, it is perfect!

massa323, I am interested in your studio. We are ending our honeymon trip at Nice, France and looking for a place to stay. How much would be staying for 3 nights in October?

massa323, I am also interested in your studio. My fiancee, her mother and I are travelling through Nice in November and looking for a place to stay. How much would be staying for 2/3 nights in late November?

Stayed at Hotel D'orsay last trip. The hotel is very near the railway station and good value for the budget traveller though it must be said that hotels in this price range can appear a bit tatty, however we don't sit in and look at the walls. Apropos food : go local and keep away from Mcdonalds, otherwise you might as well stay home!

PS. When in Nice you must try the Pain Bagnat- a big bun filled with Salade Nicoise , and the Soupe au Pistou , a local speciality that rivals italy's minestrone!

I am going to Nice every year 1st week of March and I usually stay at the Citadines Nice Promenade, ablock away from the promenade des anglais and a 15 minutes walk from either the train station or the shopping area. The Citadines is an apartment building run like an hotel with full accomodation, so you save on food. Go on www.citadines.com for info and reservation.

Massa323, Two of us will be in Nice February 21 through 28, 2005. Is your condo available then? Do you have pictures?
