largest & sandiest beach within short distance from town?

i have a car & don't mind driving 20minutes or so for a large nice beach? any suggestions.

also, are there any naturist beaches near cannes?

lastly, i know it is a more 'formal' & older age group town than say nice but what would be the 'usual' dress code whilst exploring the town?

many thanks for any suggestions.

Cannes' beach is sandy and with famed La Croisette boulevard as a backdrop. The beach is chopped up into private parcels with colorful beach beds for rent and restaurants. The beach in front of the Palais du Festival is public & free. So you don't need to go far.

Of course, in my tried and tested opinion, the Var department has better sandy beaches on the Cote d'Azur. ..

Cannes is not all that formal outside of the Festival parties. For strolling downtown, casual is fine. If you're stopping at a nice place for lunch or dinner, avoid flip-flops. The Croisette area is more chic and show.

Top-less is fine just about anywhere here. Nudist is St Tropez's Plage de Tahiti (parts of it), an entire section of the island du Levant, probably more.

As said above the beach along the Croisette is the famous one, but going west around the corner from the old port are the Plages du Midi.

This is a lovely long stretch of sand with great views. It starts off as a mixture of public and private beaches but the private sections and facilities quickly peter out.

The Plages du Midi continue all the way from Cannes to Mandelieu la Napoule (less than 20 minutes drive).

Car parking along the beach is free outside Cannes limits, but you need to get there early to find a space in high season.

The dress code for exploring the town is casual and there are lots of younger people in Cannes contrary to what you may have heard.

The only thing that isn't tolerated is swimwear away from the seafront.

If you drive a few minutes from the Croisette to Palm Beach casino, you will find quite a nice area with nice public and private beaches (it's called Bijou Plage). In my opinion it's better than the public beaches of Palais des Festivals. On the Croisette you have also some nice private beaches, where you pay about 15 euros for half a day.
