Fun, good food, great atmosphere restaurants in Cannes-

I am coming with a group in their late 20's early thirties. What are the best restaurants in Cannes? We are not as concerned with the prices as we are with the atmosphere. We want something where we can listen to music, sip cocktails, people watch... etc. Any suggestions would be helpful!!!

Try La Pizza--delicious food, vibrant atmosphere, great for people-watching. It's down near the port.

Set inland from the Festival Hall, just behind the Croisette, you will find a couple of street s full of restaurants (rue des freres Pradignac). Along the Croisette there are numerous places to sit with a cocktail and people watch. If you are there in the Summer months a trip along the coast to Theoule sur Mer (6 Miles) to the Marco Polo is fun. Here you can sit on the beach, listen to the music and eat or just sip your drinks. There are buses from Cannes to Theoule.

"Best restaurant" is a bit of an open question -best - indian chinese French international whatever - what type? What price?

For people watching during the day and early evening Le Voilier is I think the name next door to the Carlton International - snacks and bar. Sperb.

For eating out in the evening its worth exploring Le Cannet - about 2km north of the Croisette inland - taxi job - locals swear by a square of restaurants there.

Agree with all the above, but if you haven't got too long in Cannes probably wouldn't go as far as le Cannet. There's plenty in Cannes itself....

If you sit outside, anywhere on the seafront along the Croisette and Avenue de la Liberte , and the old port and beyond onto rue Jean Hibert ,is great for cocktails/people watching especially during daylight hours. There is a cluster of bars/cafes opposite the Palais des Festivals which might be worth visiting for drinks. Le Voilier , Le Festival and other places in the area around the big hotels probably offer some of the best voyeurism. Some of the food's OK too, but can be pricey.

The restaurants like Felix on the Croisette are smart, and a place that might tick most of your boxes is dining on the terrace at the Brasserie Carlton at the Carlton Hotel. Good , but pricey food, excellent people watching and cocktail potential.

You might also want to try some of the beach restaurants eg Z Plage which open in the evening in high season. L'Ondine's food is good but it's only open at lunchtime.

After dark most of the small the streets round rue des Freres Pradignac are lively and less formal- bars and restaurants, just wander round and see what takes your fancy. Would definitely have a look there.

Another area is the the strip of fish restaurants on rue Felix Faure. If you like seafood, would recommend you try Astoux et Brun's platter, but not sure that the restaurant is too good for cocktails. There is also the restaurant street, rue St Antoine which is touristy but quaint and full of restaurants.

When you get to Cannes, suggest you pick up a copy of the Carnet d'Adresses(Cannes Restaurants Experience)- a little red booklet which gives lots of information on restaurants, bars and nightlife . It's free from the tourist offices and very informative.

Have a great time!
