Provence, France

Hi, We are 2 couples who plan to visit for the first time the Provence region and we are thinking of renting a villa for 1 week in Avignon. Is there enough for us to experience in Avignon and farther afield with day trips . Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Regards, Margaret

Did villa in Tuscany a few years ago in Radda in Chianti. Looking to do same in Provence in June, 2014. So many towns, so many choices! Two couples, mid 60's, will have car. Want some degree of luxury and a central town convenient to touring. Appreciate any suggestions for best towns to look at.

Also - used a firm last time in Italy and they were great and villa was wonderful. Any idea of good, honest and dependable firms that deal with Provence properties or do I have to stick with VRBO and the like?

Appreciate any guidance. Many thanks!

stevens397, you might like to start your own thread (with a more precise title), as potential responders may not reopen an old thread. It would be useful to have more details of what interests you all (small villages? Wine? Roman cities? scenic drives? etc) and what towns and villages you know you are intending to visit.

In the meantime, however, we've used this UK-based company, which will give some accommodation ideas:

Villeneuve les Avignon is a very nice place

There are lots of underground car parks everywhere .

ot-avignon.fr/menu/…parkings-87-2.html

In addition to that 2 FREE car parks with Free shuttle to the center.Staying in villeneuve ,leave your car at the ile piot car park and take the free shuttle to porte de l'oulles.

You may find it easier than you thought to exit the city.Either west to Nîmes by the N 100; a dualcarriage way straight from the city walls.

North to Avignon nord motorway toll and Carpentras by taking the road along the river rhône leading to an express way.

South to Arles and the Alpilles by the new route du Confluent express way.
