Travel from Paris to Nimes

We would like to take a side trip from Paris to Nimes....but, looks like the TGV will cost about $550.00 for round trip for two. This seems quite high, any suggestions for a more reasonable fare?

If you are getting prices in dollars, you are looking in the wrong place.

For the best prices, book direct with the train operator as far ahead as possible. Tickets go on sale 3 months before travel, and the cheapest tickets often sell out quickly. Prices keep going up as the travel date gets closer.

You can get train times and costs, and make bookings, in English at www.tgv-europe.com/en but use Antarctic as the "Ticket collection country" in the first screen to avoid being transferred to RailEurope, which has higher prices and does not list all the trains. For notes on online booking, see www.nickbooth.id.au/Tips/FrenchTrain.htm

Looking at late April, I can see Paris-Nimes trains for as little as €25 per person each way: €100 or $135 for a return trip for two. If you wait until just before travel, you will probably have to pay the full price of €93, or a total of €372 ($495).

What is the "ticket collection country" mean? I'm from the USA.

On the first screen, it just decides whether or not to divert you to RailEurope. It has nothing to do with how you get the tickets. Take the time to actually read my notes on online booking.
