Wanted!! A small hotel with charm - not too expensive! HELP!

Hi am going to Montpellier for a week from 2-9 October and wanted to stay in a hotel with charm and character that does not cost the earth!!! I have looked at "Hotel du Parc" but can't find out how to book it!!! Any other suggestions???? Needs to be in a nice area - don't mind a little walk into town. Can anyone help please???? Thanks in advance!! PS -Need a nice break - just got back from Brussels and hated it!!!!

You could try this one, recommended by Richard James a southern France resident and writer who writes on the Languedoc for www.winetravelguides.com

Hôtel du Palais

Address: 3 Rue du Palais des Guilhem, 34000 Montpellier

Tel: 04 67 60 47 38

Web: www.hoteldupalais-montpellier.fr

Popular, elegant favourite with 25 rooms found on the edge of the old town, giving relatively easy access for vineyard trips but close enough to explore the city centre on foot.

The hotel du Parc seems to be the best to me by far (hotel with charm and character/best prices). And it seems quite easy to make a reservation : just go on the Contact page (like for any other hotel): hotelduparc-montpellier.com/Contact_gb.htm

Hi thanks for your reply - sorry have been away for a few days. I did try and book via their contact page but got no response - I then managed to speak to them in my awful French and was told they have rooms for 83 euros per night - seems to be the top rate for some reason - thought it may be a little lower in October! Anyway I was told to email in with my details and despite looking all over the internet for their email - can't find it!!!! I think I must be unlucky with this booking or perhaps it is a test that only the most persistant people get a room!!!! I will have to pluck up the courage to ring them again, I think!!!!

in case you were still working on this...click on the contact link and it will take you to the reservation page. Another link at top is for English. They were fairly prompt in emailing me back after I submitted it (2-3 days). We are staying there in early October before heading to Barcelona. Can't wait. Good Luck!

Hi thanx for your msg - the link was not working for some reason at the time I tried booking, but in the end I did manage to book! Unfortunately now we cant go away and had to cancel!! Think you probably got my room as it was the last one when I booked!!! Garden room at the back???!!!! Feel really envious that you are going now!! By the way, don't know if you have been to Barcelona but I went there a couple of years ago and loved it! Did not like "La Ramblas" at all - but you must go the "cathedral of the sea" in the gothic city - fab medieval church with an awe inspiring feeling! Sure Gaudi go inspiration there for his Sagrada Familia. They do a tour at the Sagrada in English once a day this time a year and it is worth going - although I was surprised at how unfinished the building was, how often do you get to see a cathedral in the making? If you want any other advice about Barcelona, pls ask!!! Have a fab trip!
