La Maison D'Amiel-Fabulous Stay

We’ve just returned from a two week group holiday at this vacation rental and had a wonderful time, each year we go away as a group, and we are always looking for large holiday homes to stay in, we were drawn to this rental because everyone could stay in one house, rather than some large holiday homes which offer multiple residents. We were welcomed by a Champagne reception, and the children were offered orange juice - a great way to be shown around the property and a lovely surprise.

The house is set in the centre of a village which is great for going to the local bakery, supermarket, butchers, local wine caves and good restaurant and bar. There is a road which runs past the house, but that’s what you would expect having all the conveniences of a village location. Having stayed in more remote properties before we appreciated not having to go in the car to buy bread, croissants every day and enjoyed the short walk to eat and drink at the local hotel.

Mel and Colin were great hosts, we’ve never stayed in a holiday rental where the pool gets cleaned every day, and the whole place was kept to a very high standard. If you are looking for a fantastic place for you and your family and friends, we would highly recommend La Maison D’Amiel as it does feel like home from home, it's 15 mins from Carcassonne, there are superb lakes nearby and some wonderful walks from the village. We really enjoyed it and would go back.

I stayed in this fabulous house with a large group of friends and I have to say that we had a fabulous time - in no small part due to the helpfulness and hospitality of the hosts Mel and Colin. Nothing was too inconvenient and they took us around the village to show us where the butcher, baker, supermarket etc.

It is so convenient for Carcassonne airport and easy to find. Although the house is on the main road through the village, we were not disturbed by road noise - as it is relatively peaceful even in 'rush' hour.

The house is absolutely perfect for large groups of family/friends as there are several outside spaces including lovely pool (which is very clean despite all the beautiful trees and shrubs around it), many bedrooms/bathrooms and I really liked the eclectic mix of old and new furnishings - Mel and Colin tell us that the house is constantly being improved and I understand a hot tub will be available for guest use very soon! We felt very relaxed and comfortable in the huge, well-equipped kitchen - everything we needed was on hand - including advice. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and made the most of the local restaurant/bar and hardly moved out of the village - next time(!), when we have a longer stay, we will explore Carcassonne and its colourful history too.

Definitely one to go back to!

We spent a lovely family holiday at La Maison D'Amiel in Villegailhenc this year, the house is so wonderfully equipped with everything you could possibly need from beach towels, baby equipment, two dishwashers, darts, table football, hot tub, beautiful heated pool surrounded by a wonderful landscaped gardens, we could go on. We spent most of our time in their newly furnished outside area, it's a perfect place for large groups, as you can just pop dirty dishes in their outside dishwasher. The restaurant/bar is fabulous, they catered for us on a few nights, and having the butchers, bakers and supermarket nearby was great, we hardly spent any time in our cars.

The owners took us on some local walks, there are so many wonderful things to see just on the door step, such as the almond groves, views of the Black Mountains, Pyrenees, an amazing amount of natural vegetation and wildlife.Plenty of herbs to take back to the house and cook with. We also went wine tasting, our favourite was the Minervois region, and a must see from the house is Lastours, just 15 minutes drive and the meal we had at the 2 star Michelin restaurant for €40 just in the next village was delicious. All in all a wonderful holiday, one to remember, one to recommend and one to go back for perhaps for a Christmas break next time, as imagining snuggling up in front of the open fires is very enticing. Thank you Mel and Colin for a fantastic time in your amazing house, we will return!

We had a fantastic time at La Maison. Authentic France at its finest. Mel and Colin were the perfect hosts and helped to navigate us around this fascinating area. Would certainly go back to stay there at any time. It is real France - village life, patisserie, walks through the hills full of wildflowers and herbs, local wine, so much history and all the wonderful facilities at La Maison to complete a relaxing holiday. What more could a person ask for.

Just returned from our second visit to La Maison D'Amiel. We were again welcomed with champagne by Mel & Colin who were the perfect hosts. We had a wonderful trip and always want to stay longer. Languedoc is an authentic French village with great amenities all within a short walk. The house (which is spotlessly clean) has everything you need and more, if that's possible, for a wonderful holiday, the jacquzzi was hot & ready to go, even in December. There is so much to do in the local area, the Black Mountains, Carcassone and much more, all within a 10 minute drive. A superb venue, topped off by charming hosts. Already planning the next visit.
