Here's my idea: Instead of purchasing the adaptor, and the special plugs, I thought I would just pop into a Monoprix and pick up a flat iron for straightening my hair. It's not like this is the last time I'll be travelling to Paris....

Are they outrageously expensive? Would Monoprix be my best bet? Or should I just buy the converter/adaptor kit?

Thanks......I guess it might be less expensive to just buy the convertor/adaptor.

Last time I was in Paris, I brought my flat iron, and used it with an adapter. It lasted 10 seconds, then died. I had to buy another one when I got back, so I'd suggest just buying one there!

I almost forgot about that! The same thing happened to me with a normal curling iron. Well that settles it.....I guess I'm going to have to invest in a French flat iron! Thanks for your input....

You'll pay about $35 at Tati, Monoprix, the quincailleries, etc. I'm sure you could get one cheaper at the Marche d'Aligre, but who wants to spend their time in Paris looking for a cheap iron. Your appliances burned out because you were probably only using a plug adaptor. You need a plug adaptor AND a voltage adaptor. Check this site for a wide range of adaptors:

Truffaut,

Please correct me if I am wrong, I thought that you only need an adaptor if you have a dual voltage appliance? Thanks!

We have Sallys in the UK, and the price Truffaut quotes is actually for a cheap one over here, the average flat iron price is 30 -40 thats between $55-$75, you have to remember that we're not so lucky on prices in Europe. For example I would pay the equivalent of $350 for a pair of sevem jeans here, when I've been told you can get them for around $140 over there!!! France is about the same for this type of thing.
