Day trip (on a Sunday) from Paris to Normandy

Hello,

We can only spend a day and our schedule only allows us to go on a Sunday - staying at Novotel Gare Montparnesse - suggestions please - thank you! (Nervous about trains - schedules don't seem good on Sunday's - tour companies don't seem to have good reviews...getting very anxious we won't be able to pull it off)

What, exactly, do you hope to pull off?

If you don't want to take a train or go with an escorted tour, you'd have to rent a car and explore Giverny on your own or find a guided tour there.

Where in Normandy? What about the Sunday schedules is making you nervous? What is your goal? What bad reviews have you read?

It's true that a daytrip to Normandy from Paris is a huge PITA and a very long day, but people do it all the time without a whole lot of stress, so what exactly is the problem? It would be great if you had 2-3 days to do this, or just write it off for another time, but it's not inconceivable or necessarily stressful.

My husband wants to see Omaha Beach (his father was there during the war). I can't seem to find a train that arrives in Bayeaux? early enough or leaves late enough on Sunday to book a tour from there. It seems like Viator is one of our only options (can't figure out where it leaves from though to determine if we need hotel pickup or not) and they seem to have a lot of bad reviews.

Viator do not operate tours, they just sell them for other operators, so reviews of Viator are useless unless they indicate which actual operator was used. I'm sure others here can suggest actual tour operators that they have used .

Lise, check the website for Overlord tours. We did the half-day tour to Omaha Beach and the American Cemetary last August and were quite happy with it. We were able to take the train to Bayeau, walk around the town a bit, have a delightful lunch, and then meet our tour guide. After the tour, we walked back to the station and caught the train back to Paris. It was a long day, but so worth it.

Just want to chime in on post no. 5. Overlord Tours (link here http://www.overlordtour.com/overlordtour_schedules_prices.html) provides excellent half-day tours of Omaha Beach ("Tour No. 1") that depart in both the morning and afternoon. (I actually did the full day Tour No. 3, but the morning of that tour is identical to the 1/2 day Omaha Beach Tour.) You should be able to get to Bayeux by train in plenty of time to spare for the afternoon tour.
