Is it raining all day, every day in Paris?

I'm headed to paris in a little over 2 weeks and have been watching the weather reports. Rain, rain, rain. I saw that it averages 15 days of some type of rain in January and December but it seems like a whole lot more this year. I am dreading this trip. I was just there in August and had a wonderful time. I feel like I should bring an Ark instead of rain boots. Has anyone come back recently?

On the rare case it does precipitate for most of the day, it will usually be somewhere between a fine mist and a drizzle, with an intermittent heavier shower for a few minutes at a time.

In January, there's always the possibility it could be sleet or even snow, but this year has been unusually mild - none of either thus far tis year.

No ark necessary....and water-resistant shoes are advisable, but you really won't be wading in anything deep enough to warrant rain boots.

We were there last week (just got back Tuesday)...it rained some, but never a downpour. Most days were partly sunny, with rain or drizzle after about 5 or 6pm.

Take a GOOD wind-proof umbrella and a scarf...it'll be fine...after all IT'S PARIS!

Seriously though, despite the weather forecast saying rain almost everyday we were there, most of it held off until dark.

August is quite different from January. Both in terms of temperatures and weather patterns.

But ALL of Europe has been at the mercy of the continuous Westerlies this winter.

While I'm not a big fan of the wind and rain, I'd certainly prefer it to sub-zero and icy conditions.

It's raining pretty hard right now, if that information helps.

The weather is not as bad as what we have here in the Northeast. It rains here during the winter more. That being said, I've been in Paris when it has snowed, when we had rain for five days straight and when the sun was shining and warm. Don't let the weather affect your trip. Carry an umbrella and wear a hat to protect your hair style from having a bad hair day and all will be wonderful!

Overall, it rains about 50% of the time in Paris, although recent years have been very dry for the most part, and this year has been particularly dry.

In practice, that doesn't mean that it rains every half hour, it means that it rains for a few days, then it's dry for a few days, then it rains for a few days, etc. That's the usual pattern.

A great deal of the rain is very light and misty. Driving rains and thunderstorms are rare. The rain is often light enough that people don't bother with umbrellas. If it rains harder, they just wait under an awning somewhere, because it rarely rains continuously for long periods, but rather starts and stops at intervals of ten to thirty minutes.

It's just too soon to bother with a forecast for a little more than two weeks from now. Since rain is forecast every day for the next ten days, perhaps you'll be fortunate to catch a spell of drier weather when you arrive.

"Overall, it rains about 50% of the time in Paris,"

On average, there are about 171 days a year with precipitation of over 0.1 mm (0.004 in.), yet only 16 days with more than 10 mm (0.4 in.). Paris receives an average 641 mm of rain over 548 rainy hours per year. As there are 8766 (on average) hours per year, it rains about 6.3% of the time.

171/365.2422 = 46.8%

In other words, it rains about 50% (well, 46.8%) of the time. "Precipitation" = "rain."

Paris receives about eight percent more rain than London, and almost eleven times as much rain as Miami. It is therefore prudent to be prepared for rain, as a stay of any significant length stands a very good chance of including it.
