 Christmas in Paris

Will be spending Christmas in Paris with husband and adult daughter and am looking for a very nice restaurant for Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Prefer mid to pricey. Would anyone have advice? Thank you.

I think that one of the Flo Brasseries group would suit you just fine.

www.flobrasseries.com

The original Flo is excellent, but the location is a bit eccentric. Places like Terminus Nord, Bofinger, or La Coupole are spacious and well situated -- and the other places are quite fine as well.

For Christmas, you would want to reserve well in advance, but you can do that online on the site.

Well I guess the Flo brasserie option is not bad. You probably won't write home about the food you had (oh wait you will be on holiday, so of course you will anyway) but you can't go wrong at these adresses. Those are usually large places so if you are looking for some intimate place you might want to look somewhere else.

Don't be lured into buying a custom made platter of seafood. I've worked at a brasserie Flo 10 years ago, and the local sport was to sell seafood extravaganzas to tourists. I've seen some leaving with $1000+ bills just for it - not including beverages and desserts.

Something else you can do is asking your hotel to take care of the reservation, given your budget. When a hotel books at a restaurant, the restaurant knows that if the guests return satisfied to their hotel, the hotel will be sending more people.

where are you staying in Paris ? That might help find alternate choices to the flobrasseries.

a good rule of thumb for tourists anywhere in the world is never say yes to the 'let me just put together a nice menu for you'

this is ALWAYS the opening gambit in getting grossly overbilled (first time I saw this occur was 50 years ago in a lovely little restaurant in Copenhagen when the father of a friend took us to dinner and the waiter 'proposed' just putting something together -- I have had friends tell me of it many a time since)

Mid to Pricy means from 80€ - 1000€ per person - is that the sort of thing you had in mind? By the time you're paying that sort of money you're not paying for the food - you're paying for location and the chef's attempts to get on to TV...

Don't expect Turkey and the trimmings, unless you go for somewhere doing the American Christmas Experience, in which case it still won't be what you'd expect at home

Terminus Nord is a good choice for Christmas Eve - It's the sort of restaurant that won't fill up, even on the busiest of days. Just select one of the ordinary menus. I have eaten here Christmas Day and had no issues with the quality or quantity of food - and you will write home about it because it's so different to Middletown NJ. The biggies on the menu at that time of year are Pintade, and Oysters/

Really , you should be booking your Chrictmas Eve restaurant this week - a lot of French families will already have their plans for Christmas Eve made, and the restaurant booked.

Christmas lunch, try the restaurant at Musee Andre Jacquemart, and you have your afternoon's activity sorted out too - and wander around the museum, then down to Champs Elysees to watch Parisians walking up and down trying to find something to do...

About 20 years ago we visited Paris and stayed at a small, quaint hotel known as HotelSan Francisco or San Francisco Hotel. It was on a narrow street. I wonder whether it still is operating.

I'll appreciate your response. Thank you
