Dijon/Beaune weekend (x-posted to both forums)

Hello all!

My college is sending a group of us to Dijon and Paris. While in Dijon, we'll have three free days, Friday evening to Monday evening, to do what we want. A lot of people are talking about flying to another city, but I think that seems like a waste.

I'm debating between staying in Dijon or going to Beaune. Or, possibly, staying in Dijon and doing a day trip to Beaune (I've looked it up, and people say it takes 25 min each way by train?). What do people recommend? More importantly, how often does the train come and how much does it cost? I can't find any information about this, especially because I don't speak any French.

Is there sufficient entertainment for an individual in either city -- if that individual is not a big wine drinker? Keep in mind, by entertainment, I mean museums, parks, anything.

Is it worth going to Beaune for one day or is it a must-be-there-for-three-days type of place?

While Beaune is a really charming village, and is only a half hour from Dijon, I would think a day trip would do it for you.

You might also want to consider going to Paris for those days. It is only about an hour and a half away by TGV (fast train), and that would only cost €20 each way, if you book your tickets far enough to get the Prem (promotional = cheap) fares. Unless you are already so familiar with with Paris that it bores you (hard to believe), I can think of no better way to spend a few days exploring the wonders of that marvelous city.

Whatever you decide, you will LOVE France.

Hi and welcome on board , Hi Nukesafe :-)

3 days are too short to discover what Dijon has to offer, so I would do Beaune on a day trip (6.40€ one way and trains TER every 30min or every hour. check http://www.voyages-sncf.com )

Go to the tourist office and ask for the owl's trail brochure (2.50€) and you'll see all the nicest sites with explanations. Try the Segway ride!

Dijon has great museums like the Fine Arts museum in the Ducal Palace, the Burgundian Life museum (musée de la vie bourguignonne) and Sacred Arts museum, the archeological museum near St Benigne cathedral, pretty Magnin museum, Sciences museum near the botanical one.

Enjoy the parks like Darcy park, the botanical garden, parc de la Colombière, the Kir lake (if you come between 9 june and 9 sept don't forget your swimming costumes)...

Don't forget shopping, restaurants and clubs!

Since you will be in Paris during this trip, I suggest that you hang around Dijon. Do day trip from there, like Beaune, Besançon or Auxerre. All of these can be done by train. Bon voyage.
