I ahvent stayed in either, but personally I'd go for the City Centre one, as you can walk to MEN from there (it's not dead dead close, but it's walkable, and in it's all through a decent enough city centre area). The Sport City one is a bit out on a limb; not walkable (to my mind), and in a bit more of a less populated/run down area.

Don't stay at the Sportcity area as it is quite a rough area. You'd best off staying in the City Centre.

Sportcity area not good to stay in. City centre much much better. Try the following - Premier Travel Inn GMEX, or the one nearby on Portland St, or IBIS Portland St. All three good, in good spot and an interesting 15 mins stroll to MEN Arena.

KWUK got it right, stay in a city centre, IBIS, Premier Lodge, all are good. Walking distance from the train staion and from the Gmex.

Enjoy.

There's also a Travel Inn on Victoria Bridge Street says it is Salford but it isnt! Really near to the Arena and also near to some good shopping - thats if your teens are girls !!

The original poster has probably done the concert thing. We stayed at the Travelodge Sport City last week and didn't experience any of the things you have mentioned. It was busy with Ricky Hatton fans but the staff were exemplary.
