Hi!

This forum has been so helpful... i have one last (HA!) request for help. I've read about Lough Gur and the fact that there is a Great Stone Circle outside the settlement...

We are driving from Shannon to Mitchelstown via Ballylanders and i wonder if it's feasible to see the Circle along the way. Any input would be appreciated.

Sorry - I ought to have credited the directions to the AA site.

www.theaa.com Go to routes and click on Ireland.

www.aaroadwatch.ie/routes seems to be out of commission at the moment.

Yes.

Leave Limerick on the "Old Cork road" heading for Bruff. About 1 mile after the cross roads at Ballyneety you will come to the turn off for Mitchelstown. Instead continue straight ahead , over the bridge at Grange , along a long straight stretch of road and before you come to Reardons pub the stone circle is on the left.

The trip from the turn off for Mitchelstown to the circle is only perhaps 3 or 4 miles. If you like stone circles then another 2 miles to get to Lough Gur is probably worth the trip.

Irish,

Yes, do visit Lough Gur if you have a half hour or so to spare. It is beautiful and there is an interperative centre there also which may be open if you arrive early. You can climb the hill or just sit looking at the scenery. Bring a picnic with you if it is a nice day.

How to get there? Leaving stone circle going towards Bruff, come to Reardons pub and take a left turn at the side of it. It is a bendy road so take your time but lovely scenery. At both turn offs keep left and you are there. No distance at all from main road.

Enjoy your trip
