Castle vs Castle hotel

What is the difference between the two?

Has anyone stayed in either? What would you recommend?

Thanks!

Jeannie,

Where are you considering staying? Your post is very vague.

We are not sure yet, we are coming to Ireland june 11-22, in/out of shannon. So far we are booked for 2 nights, first at Sean og B & B in Tralee and then Mainstay in Dingle.

After that we would do ring of kerry, head to Cork and waterford. Then off to Dublin and Galway and then somewhere close to Shannon for our last day.

We thought is would be cool to stay in a castle one night, since the rest are B & B's. We will be with our kids (17 & 23). Not sure where a good place would be to stay in any of the areas (except for Tralee/Dingle since they are already booked)

I am open to suggestions, I am new to this and have read there are castles and castle hotels, not sure what the difference is.

Would love some suggestions on ....everything.....ha ha

Thanks!

Jeannie

Castles are places you explore but cannot stay. Castle hotels you can stay at. Many are extremely expensive. There are a few castle B&Bs around the country. You can also rent a castle to stay in. I suggest you Google "ireland castle hotels" to see what you come up with. Not every place that has the word castle in their name is actually a castle.

For instance Ballynahinch Castle Hotel is a fishing lodge not a genuine castle. Gregan's Castle Hotel...not a castle, etc.

White Castle too!! :-)
