I will be in Galway for a week-long conference at the end of May. During this time, I will have 5 free afternoons (starting at 1 pm) and one full day (Saturday) for local sightseeing. While the conference organizers may be offering several excursion/activity packages, I am more interested in engaging the services of a private guide who can help me see the local sights in greater depth.
In addition to visiting the city, I would like to make some excursions into the surrounding countryside. I am particularly interested in moderate hikes which showcase the Irish landscape and scenery. I hope to visit Connemara, the Cliffs of Moher, and, time permitting, the Aran Islands.
I have begun my research, but have hit a brick wall locating independent guides who can also take me out on 2-4 hour hiking excursions. Most of what I am finding are bus tours of the surrounding region, which do not appeal to me. Any thoughts or recommendations?
