Two days in Galway suggested day trips

Visiting Ireland for six days this summer, not much time to explore we know, but getting a taste at least! Can anyone recommend several possible day trips from Galway and/or must see while in area. Also, can anyone recommend a B&B walking distance from local pubs, restaurants especially near Monroes Pub. From here we will head south, but havent decided our itinerary yet. Thanks!

Are you driving or looking for escorted day tours? Most would recommend a trip to Connemara as a good option from Galway.

I wouldn't worry too much about being in walking distance to a particular pub. Galway City is compact enough that you're really going to be in a reasonable walking distance to most things no matter where you stay.

We are driving. Considering going out to Inishmore for a day? What are your thoughts? Also, Is Roundstone a doable day trip? We dont necessarily want to be in a car all day either, so are there sights that you would recommend?

Any B&B's or hotels to recommend in Galway?

Thanks for your feedback.

I loved Marless House. It in the Salthill area. Can walk to the beach. Drove up to Cong to do a "hawk walk" at Ashford Castle. Stayed in a B&B up in that area and went to Kylemoore Abbey the next day. Had a wonderful time.

Inis mor is a nice day trip, I had a nice sunburn out there just a week ago. Shame on me for listening to the weather forecast of "100% chance of rain" and leaving my sun block in the car lol. (Even better as an overnight if you have the time.)

I would recommend taking a look at a route planner to get some rough idea of driving time between places; it will allow you to plan your day out a bit and decide if things are too far for you.

I rarely do B&B anymore in Galway. My favorite hotel is Park House in the city center. But after a stay last week at Galway Bay Hotel I might move them to the top of my list. Great property with a water view, short bus ride to the center of town but Salthill has enough going on too.

Inishmore is an excellent choice of a day trip and, as Irishfan suggests, an even better destination if you can manage an overnight stay. Aran Island Ferries offer a special on overnight stays--RT ferry and one night in a B&B for 50 euros per person. The B&B that they gave us last year for this special deal was the Clai Ban. It wasn't fancy, but it was clean and well-situated next to the Ti Watty Pub.

If you're still looking for more things in Connemara (and it would make sense to explore the area north of Galway - Connemara - if you are planning to travel south afterwards) then do check out the list of Top Questions about Connemara in the top right hand corner of the Connemara forum* - last year I complied a few good threads and put them in the 'Things to See and Do' section: tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowForum-g186608-i1560-Co…

A day-trip to Roundstone is VERY doable and VERY highly recommended - the landscape and scenery around and about during such a day trip will astound and delight you (and you'll be able to stop and take pictures whenever/wherever you want as you'll be in a car) and it will not be like anything else you'll encounter on your journey south landscape wise. Lunch in O'Dowd's should be your ultimate goal: tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g551539-…
