Trip round Galway Ireland

We are a family of 4, 2 parents and 2 teenage daughters and we are coming to Ireland, arriving Dublin airport on Friday 15th June at 1am. We shall be leaving back to Malta on Friday 22nd June at 3pm. We would like to combine travelling round and shopping. We have been recommended the area round Galway for travelling. Our plan is to go straight away to Galway, rent a car and then spend the last 2 nights in Dublin.

Any advice would be appreciated, regarding best night transport, hotel in Galway, where best to rent a car and also which places best to visit. Louise Bugeja,

There are no public transport options that late at night that I can think of. Tony has given good advice on your other thread, I think this might be the only option.

Can you please pass on Tony's advice as I can't see it from my end. Thanks

Tony said . . .

"I would check into one of the Dublin Airport hotels with a shuttle. get some sleep after your 4 hour flight and start the following day a little more refreshed.

You have the option of driving over in a hire car from one of the main players or getting the Bus over from the airport. The only car hire option in Galway city would be Budget."

Thanks.

Any advice which places best to tour. We have approximately 6 days, then back to Dublin for the last 1-2 days.

The other benefit of the Airport hotel would be that if you decided against hiring in Dublin and wanted to get over on Public transport you could catch the GoBus express service direct from the Airport to Galway rather than habing to get into the city to travel over.

Galway can be used as a base for counties Clare and Galway, The Aran Islands and a little further afield.

Regular tours run to the Burren/Cliffs of Moher, the Connemara and the Aran Islands so no need to have a hire car for the whole time.

Accommodation would depend on budget and how close to the centre you would want to be, there is a good range of B&B and Hotel accommodation to suit all tastes

Any advice on cheap sleeping facilities for a few hours before we take the coach to Galway.

Also, please which would be the best (time and price) to travel to Galway - by coach or by train?

Thanks

Go Bus is €25 return Dublin Airport to Galway

http://www.gobus.ie/booking.php

By train you would need the 747 to Heuson €6 each way and €30 return for the rail fare.

Bewleys offer a 24hr shuttle bus service to and from the airport.

Bewleys at the Airport is great and Gobus or Citrylink are far better value than the train.
