Best Airport for Galway

We are planning our trip to Galway in May. We are not renting a car, would it be better for us to fly into Dublin and take the train to Galway or fly into Shannon and then take a bus to Galway?

I'd go for Shannon due to it's proximity , You can get a City Link bus from the airport which will take you direct to Galway (You can also get this bus from Dublin www.citylink.ie) But the journey time from Shannon would be consideribly less. You can fly to Galway airport from Dublin using Aer Arann.

Hope this helps!

Shannon is your best bet for ease of travel.

Going from Dublin, you will have to take a long bus journey and if you opt for the train from Dublin, you need to get a bus to Dublin City Centre and a bus to the train station, then the train to Galway.

You could get a taxi but it would be a costly way to travel across Dublin City Centre.

It is cheaper to fly into Shannon from the US most of the time.

There is a direct bus from Dublin Airport to Dublin Heuston Station. It is route 748 and is an express service. There is no need to take 2 buses if choosing this way to travel

1. Fly to Galway Direct

2.You can fly to Dublin with Ryanair or Aer Lingus (good deals). There is a coach park at Dublin airport where you will find Citylink coaches which go direct to Galway city at €18 single €28 return (so don't bother going into Dublin first). If you do want to take the train, then you can take a bus from the airport to Heuston train station - this goes from just outside the arrivals hall, go left and take bus number 848 at €5 each way - see Bus Eireann.

3. Fly to Shannon and take either the Bus Eireann bus or the direct Citylink bus to Galway city

Avail of some bus tours to the Burren, Connemara, visit the Aran Islands, trip up the Corrib. Hang out at the old part of town - Quay street and if you like fish, then do not miss Mc Donagh's restaurant on Quay Street.
