Hi,

I need your help again. My husband and sons are interested in golfing while they are staying in Dublin. This is the catch they won't have a car and know it won't be cheap but are looking to rent their golf clubs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. They will be arriving June 7th which is a Saturday and staying until Tuesday. Will probably need to take public transporation.

I know nothing about golf in dublin but I imagine that you would be much better off with your own clubs and a car would give you that extra choice when it comes to getting to and from the clubs, not to mention a great time saver.

If you have any friends coming to the Cork area in the near future here is my CORK list of golf clubs.

Hi

I'm not a golfer either, but here's one suggestion

Deer Park Golf Course in Howth

It's a 10-15 min walk from Howth Dart (train)station

They rent clubs etc... and for non golfers the views are wonderful

Deer Park Hotel & Golf Courses

Howth, Co. Dublin Telephone 00 353 1 832 2624

18 holes from €17.50 to €26.00

Full set of clubs hire €16.00

www.deerpark-hotel.ie

Enjoy

Hi dapmag3

Howth is apx 10 miles from the City Center and yes It's easily accessible by DART (Dublin Area Rapid transport)

I.E the coastal train line

The Nearest D.A.R.T station to Christchurch Apt. would be

Tara St Station D2

between Trinity College and the Quays

Howth is the last stop on the DART going north

its also lovely Fishing Village

Where are they staying ? Most hotels should be able to organise a golf outing for you. The two big name courses in dublin are Portmarnock and Royal Dublin which are both on the north side of the city; these are private members clubs but for a substantial green fee you can get out on them especially off peak. There are quite a few public courses but the better ones do book up quickly and I suspect you may have a difficulty getting a tee time at the weekend anywhere

Try teetimes.ie

Fantastic courses at a fraction of the price.

The times will all be midweek and off peak.

We played portmarnock at 8.30 on a mon morning for 35 euro each.

Renting clubs and trolleys is hit and miss, ring each club you intend to play at.

Clontarf, portmarnock,Beaverstown(and others in Donabate )are all on public transport routes.

The island,St Annes, are otherst hat spring to mind.

Howth golf club (near dart) are also great courses.

Sorry if this seems random but I am thinking as I type.

There are south city golf clubs that are also on public transport routes but I rarely play southside(traffic).

Its a pity no car is available as Leinster is a golfer's paradise.

Having said that I know of no other capital city that has as many golf clubs withinin its boundaries as Dublin.

I met a group of Japanese tourists at Portmarnock who were playing 2 rounds of golf every day for 10 days at 20 different courses.

They said with hotels and flights still cheaper than playing 20 rounds of golf in Japan.

If they do decide to go to Howth tell them to go to the pier house after their round for a pint of Guinnesss and if they are lucky an impromptu ballad session,

Plenty of places for lunch in Howth for all budgets ,so do not eat in Deer Park..

A club sandwich in the lower part of the lounge is one of my favourite pastimes

A fantastic view of Sutton ,Clontarf and on to the Airport

You can see half of Dublin from there and a great sandwich too

Puts the view from the Guinness storehouse to shame

Having said that dapmag3 there are some great places to eat in Howth

Aqua Restaurant (fish)

1 West Pier Howth.

Deep (fish)

12 West Pier Howth.

King Sitric Fish Restaurant

By the East Pier, Howth

Lemongrass in

Findlater House, Harbour Road, Howth. across from the station

The Bloody Stream (fish)

below the Dart Station, Howth.
