Cork Bus Station (Parnell Place) to Blarney Castle

Is Bus 215 what we should use to get from Cork Bus Station to Blarney Castle? There are numerous stops called "Blarney". Should we get off at Woolen Mills and how far of a walk is it from the bus station to the Castle?

The bus to Blarney does not go directly from Cork station but just about 2 mins walk away on Merchants Quay where there are a line of bus stops including the 215.

Blarney is a very small village and there is no bus station there, just a bus stop. It doesn't matter which stop you get off at Blarney, in fact, there is more than likely only one stop there and it will be obvious that you are in the village when you get there. It takes about 25 mins.

Looking at the timetable, it mentions the Woolen Mills stop,so yes, get off there.

The woolen mills is only a 3 minute walk to the gates of the Castle.

It's a very easy travel option to Blarney so - go for it. You buy your ticket on the bus, and you pay cash. You can buy a return ticket, which will allow you to return from Blarney on the same day.

As an American living in Cork, my advice is to board the bus and just ask the driver to indicate when to get off, they'll gladly do it. Its then a very short walk to the Woolen Mills or the Castle. You catch the return bus just across the street from where you arrive.

As for the return, is it the same 215 bus? When I try to enter the information for the return on the Bus Eireann website, it calls for a change of bus and for some reason the journey was 10 min longer. It seemed a bit more confusing. Does the return require a change of bus to get back to Cork at the same place we got on?

Yes, get the 215 back to city. There are no bus changes on the 215 - straight journey. Not sure why it is 10 mins longer.Odd

The Cork to Blarney adult day return fare is €6.90 if bought on the bus.

Alternatively the ticket can be bought online for €6.56 at:

http://www.buseireann.ie

There's no fee to buy online but the e-mail confirmation must be printed off and given to the driver in exchange for the ticket. Booking online requires one to select the day of travel but not a specific bus time.

If travelling around Cork a lot by bus Bus Éireann have various unlimited travel tickets/passes available. Last year a three day Cork rambler ticket was available:

Hope you have an enjoyable trip.

Hi Bryno,

When you mention across the street from when you arrive, you mean if I got off the bus by the Woolen Mills, on rhe return back to Cork, I would pick up the 215 right across the street correct? Also, you said there is no change of bus back to the city of Cork, but what stop do I get off of that is closest to the bus station (Parnell Place) as we would be taking a later bus onto Killarney in evening.

Thanks,

Hi Jingles13,

We took the return on bus 215 and the stop was across the street. It was raining and there was cover. We took the bus back to the Cork main bus station. We actually asked the bus driver to tell us where to get off. You do not get off where you initially get on (we got on at the main bus station). You can just ask the driver to tell you where to get off. They were pretty helpful.

Hi Panda Houston

How did your trip go in May. Did you enjoy the Blarney Castle trip? Visitors there either love it or hate it. What did you think of it?

Did you find the bus journey to and from - easy to do?

Jingles13 - Panda Houston gives good advice. Ask - if you are unsure.

Cork city is small and all city centre bus stops are a few minutes walk from the bus station.
