Weekend in Ennis, at the Ashford Court Hotel

coming to Ireland on Saturday :)

We are flying into Shannon and staying at the Ashford Court in Ennis.

Please, we would love suggestions for lovely places to visit in Co. Clare. Castles, shopping, typical Irish sights, we have hired a car, so transport sorted!

We are here for two nights and three days.

..........also two restaurants for the evenings quite near the hotel.

Thank you so much :)

franandhow. If you like Italian, you hotel's restaurant is quite nice, Juliaos. For nice food in a nice pub setting, try Baron McQ's at the end of Parnell street. Chineese, Jasmine palace .

Zuchini is going for tendy, and Town Hall is another reliable option.

Pubs : Brogans and Poets corner.

Castles are plentiful in county Clare, take a visit to Ennis friary. Worth a visit is Quin village (and abbey) with nice gallery restaurant.

Bunratty castle, Knappogue, Craggaunowen, Dromoland and Mooghaun in this area. (along with their castles.)

Further north county Clare there's the Burren (www.burrenpage.com ) with its unique landscape and steeped in history, which brings you to the cliffs of Moher - pretty easy to avoid parking fee of €8 at this time of year, and few vistors.

Look at for Lemanagh castle in this area, between Corofin and the beautiful village of Ballyvaughan.

Have a look at some routes that I have put together for county Clare - many scenic routes, but wip.

Hope that this helps.

Hi franandhow, you won't be too far from any pubs or restaurants, just a 5 minute walk at most.

I agree with ferdia's recommendations and would also like to add O'Connor's Bia na Dia in Chapel lane.

My favourite restaurant in Ennis is the Town Hall though, good for lunch or dinner(but a reservation needed for dinner).

Another very good place for lunch is the Food Heaven in the market area(closed on Sundays).

The pubs will be very lively at the weekend, so you should try a pub crawl starting at the Baron McQ's.
