I am in the very early stages of planning a trip to play golf and watch the Ryder Cup matches in Sep 2006. I'll be traveling with 4 or 5 couples. The guys playing golf, the girls touring. I expect we'll stay 9 or 10 days.
I'd really love to play Lahinch, Ballybunion, Royal Portrush, Royal Co. Down and Portmarnock. Is this possible in my limited time? I've been trying to find driving times, etc.
How about this itinerary:
day 1 -arrive Shannon in am, play Lahinch in pm (1 1/4hr drive) stay the night b/w Lahinch and Ballybunion?
day 2 - play Ballybunion twice (a 2 1/2 hr drive from Lahinch?)
day 3 - drive to Royal Portrush (5 hr drive) no golf
day 4 - Play Royal Portrush, drive to Co. Down (? hours)
day 5 - Play Royal Co. Down and drive to Dublin (3 hrs)
day 6 - play Portmarnock and tour Dublin
day 7 & 8 - watch Ryder Cup
day 9 - home
Is this totally crazy? Is it more reasonable without the Portrush leg? I'd rather not change rooms each night. Driving times I've found on the internet are longer than I'd expect. Are they accurate?
I expect we'll need to get a guide to show our wives around for the week. Does anyone have any good guide recommendations? On a previous trip, the guys would play golf during the day, the girls would tour, and we'd meet for the evening.
A long posting I know. Thanks in advance for your input.
