Week self catering in Aviemore end of May with a car

Hi Guys

Our accommodation is all booked and its less than a month to wait now:-)

I have a few questions if I may - hope its ok using the one post.

Where to buy food - are there recommended butchers, bakers and veg shops in the area or do we need to use a supermarket somewhere?

Place to eat on the Friday night - we arrive Friday after a long drive up during the day. Are there any recommended places to eat that we could go to without the need to book a table. It may well be after 8pm by the time we venture out. We are all adults so bars would not be problem.

Live music bars - is there anywhere we can check for live music whilst we are in the area for the week?

Thank you in advance for any help :-)

Supermarket: Tesco in the one and only main street

There is a butcher across the road from it but Tesco obviously sells meat, chicken, pork etc.

Places to eat? La Taverna, Italian at the south end of Aviemore. Does great pizzas and they run a buffet too.

Cairngorm Hotel in the main street opposite the station. Good food and service.

Not for dinner but Mountain Cafe in the main street, further north than Tesco, before the roundabout on left.

EXCELLENT home baking, breakfast, soup, sandwiches etc. You must go!

Old Bridge Inn, at south end of Aviemore, turn left at roundabout then left again if going by car. You can walk from town, it's not far. There is a shortcut underpass I believe. It often has live music.

I think we are maybe talking Bank Holiday here? Aviemore is very busy all year and personally I wouldn't turn up without booking. I hate having to look for a second choice or Plan B.

There are loads of other places to eat. The Winking Owl, past Tesco going north, straight on at the roundabout and its on the left is under new ownership. I haven't tried it for a while.

If you need more help, just ask

Thank you Woody lots of good suggestions.

Mountain Cafe sounds fab - just looked at their website and am feeling hungry now!

We are talking the Friday of the Bank holiday weekend - and that is also the reason why we may be late as well which makes booking difficult.

Why not choose somewhere to book for 9 o'clock and cover your bases?
