..... but more a thank you.
Following a question or two via this forum, my family and I visited last week during half term. Our few days turned out not at all as we expected and were hugely enjoyed by all.
After flying into Inverness from Luton (only a short distance from where we live) we picked up our hire car (super easy) and drove to our hotel in the Aviemore area (also super easy). We checked into our hotel (friendly and easy).... Are you getting that this was a doddle??!
A family vote meant that our first activity was the Cairngorm Mountain Railway - and this is where our holiday changed course. After seeing the skiing area, the superb conditions and the prices of lessons/equipment etc, we opted to allow our children to take skiing lessons. Arranging everything was yes - you guessed it - super easy! They had never previously skiied and completely loved it. This meant that our plans were completely altered and centred around the mountain instead (and my husband and I spent quite a lot of time hanging around in the skiing area restaurants!!). But on the plus side, we then upgraded our mountain railway passes for annual passes and plan to return in summer to carry out our original trip!
Thanks to everyone (especially woodybark) in helping us plan our trip. I feel like we've let you all down by ending up not doing half of the things you recommended - but we will!
And for anyone who's just browsing and thinking of going to Aviemore - just go. It's really simple, super friendly and there is so much to do. We went Tuesday to Friday and only really had Wednesday and Thursday as full days there. This was not not enough. We should have gone for longer and regret not doing so.
