Place to stay from Glasgow to Skye

We are planning to fly in to Glasgow Airport at 6pm on a Monday evening. Our final destination is Skye, but we feel that driving from 6pm - 11pm is too much this day. If we don't stay in Glasgow, what are our accommodation options along the way? We thought of driving for 1-1.5 hours (before sunset) from Glasgow airport, and continue the rest of the journey on Tuesday morning.

If starting at 6 and dark at 7, it's not worth driving into the night, IMO, so that suggests Loch Lomond to me.

"Arrochar (two miles west of Tarbet)" - if asked to choose somewhwere in that area, I'd make it the Tarbet Hotel. A bit old-fashioned, but nice. Look up what TA has to say about the Tarbet Hotel and the Arrochar Hotel.

If money is not the prime consideration you might consider the Cameron House Hotel near Balloch - and there's plenty choice around there.

PS if dark at 7, that means it's getting dark at 6.30 give or take a bit. Depends on the weather.

"sunset is about 7pm".

Looking at the Weather channel, it has sunset in Glasgow going from 18:52 on the 1st October, to 16:39 on the 31st......

I'm guessing it will be dark before you leave the car park.....

Also forgot to mention, but your route north is the A82, one of the most scenic roads in the UK

After you leave the airport you take the M8 Westbound then over the Erskine Bridge to join the 82.

Problem is the Erskine Bridge has just commenced major repairs lasting 10 months and they advise delays of 30-60 mins!!

So even if you clear the airport at 6 you will miss all that scenery after Dumbarton after 7.

Fly in at 6, or start driving at 6? The two are not the same, obviously. If your plane lands at 6, you'll be lucky to be away by 7. If you start driving at 6, you'll be somewhere like Balloch when it gets dark - if you are thinking of *early* October.

Just to be sure we're all agreeing on sunset times:

Or consider also the Bridge of Orchy Hotel, before you enter Glen Coe. Haven't been in it for years, but believe it's recently had an extensive upgrading.

Enjoy your trip and hope you have some decent weather for the drive.
