You can get a train from Glasgow Queens Street station to Edinburgh Haymarket station (that's the 2nd last stop. (The main Edinburgh station is the next one, at Waverley) The airport bus (100) stops at Haymarket and will take you right to the airport. Alternatively, the bus (Citylink 900) from Buchanan Street bus station in Glasgow (one every 15 minutes) will take you to Haymarket. The 900 passes the road down to Edinburgh airport on it's way into Edinburgh. If you have no luggage and don't mind a 10 or 15 minute walk you could get off here and walk. The stop is called Ingliston Showground Entrance.

As advised above and you can certainly do the journey in less than 2 hours. Will you be in the city centre at Queen Street for the 6pm train or are you starting from somewhere else?

If you mean the Celtic v Motherwell match, an alternative is to get the Airdrie/Drumgelloch train from Carntyne or bellgrove station and alight at Easterhouse station as I'm sure the citylink Edinburgh bus picks up here (timetabled as Bailieston). You can then get off at Ingliston Showground and walk to the airport or cross the road and get the Lothian 35 service to the terminal. If you decide to go for this option call citylink to confirm their pickup point in Bailieston.

This is a brilliant website: put in departure and destination points, and it comes up with options. Emelda
