My Dundee Experience |
|
My Dundee Experience was one I´ll never forget. Those Fish & Chip shops are awsome. The meeting place for all friendly Dundonians - especially those who are drunk beyond comprehension and mutter: "Hasha goat thuh time Jim?" - and then proceed to vomit all over your brand new leather coat. Indian Deli´s are another meeting place. Curries are the food of the day there - and whilst waiting in these establishments - one is entertained by a scuffle or two betwixt the locals with calls of..."Pit thuh boot in!"...or "Heeder ´im ya mug ya!" ... The constables are soon called and a right old racaus prevails...
This makes Dundee special for me. The Fish & Chip shops and the Indian Deli´s are a must! I give it ten-out-of-ten on the Richter scale anytime...

Written by someone who has obviously visited Dundee. I originate in the Dundee area and return frequently, from Hamburg where I now live, to visit friends and family. However, it is a running battle zone with drink playing the major factor here as it always has. Perth Road (Uni) is the best (safest) place to go for a drink or a meal.

19 months ago I met a man from Dundee, we met on the internet and fell in love. When I first went to Dundee to meet his family, I was overcome by the friendliness of the people, and the Beautiful city. I have visited many times, now we live together in England where I am from. Due to the ages of my two children I could not move to Dundee, but in a couple of years when they fly the coup.....we are hoping to move back to his homeland. Its like a magical city to me, the warmth of the people, the river Tay.....breathtaking scenery, Broughty ferry is gorgeous, we walked on the beach, and yep the fish and chip shops!!!! I'm used the the accent now, and hopefully my yorkshire accent is understood. When I go to Dundee, its like time stands still, everywhere is relaxed, unlike life in my city. Hopefully we will be going back in a few weeks, to visit his family and the beautiful city, I have come to love and respect as much as he does.

I think the demon drink has a lot to answer for and I am sure that Dundee is not the only place that you could get a similar sort of 'entertainment ' on a Saturday night! My husband and I (I sound like the Queen) have travelled to many places and the only time we were ever threatened with a knife was in our home village by one of the local numpties.

Oh I do love Dundee despite the drink. Its about the only place in the country where I can actually tower above other people - and thats a tall order when you're not much over 5 foot!

Me, I wouldn't go near any city's centre after closing time - Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen. However, after a month of almost constant sunshine, the waters of the Tay sparkling more like the Med and dolphins and whale watching off Broughty beach, there's plenty of appreciate in Dundee in daylight hours

Off to Dundee by train tomorrow to hit the shops! I'll be better able to comment on the general demeanour of the place.

Montrose, where's that again? No wait, I remember it well. I went there for a week one day. Average age of the local inhabitant is 85, and where the Co-op is the hub of life. Yessir, there's no vomit or violence in Montrose - but to tell the truth, there's not much of anything in Montrose. Clearly a town to be identified with the dead and the dying.

Soleft - this isn't the place to join in a mudslingingfest - Dundee would be better served by showing its warm, humourous and welcoming side. It really has much to offer and is well worth a day trip. Highlights would be the Scotts ship the Discovery and the museum alongside overlooking the lovely Tay, Camperdown Park - such a wonderful place to stroll, especially for youg children who have a great time in the innovative playpark, the shopping centre of course, the Mandarine Chinese Restaurant and fab Indian restaurants, the lovely bakery that has a cafe attached and sells miniature dundee cakes (forgot name) and so much more!

soleft I think that Jan54's message was an affectionate look at Dundee and indeed as I said before any late night in any town in Scotland...instead of mudslinging we should be trying to sort out the hard drinking culture of the Scots...I'm not against alcohol I enjoy it myself but it has a lot to answer for in this country! Purpleceltic was correct to chastise you in her inimitable diplomatic manner! Fofoma
